The environments and hosts of metal absorption at <i>z</i> &amp;gt; 5

A growing population of metal absorbers are observed at z>5, many showing strong evolution in incidence approaching the epoch hydrogen reionization. Follow-up surveys examining fields around these metals have resulted galaxy detections but direct physical relationship between detected galaxies and is unclear. Upcoming observations will illuminate this galaxy-absorber relationship, theoretical framework for interpreting lacking. To inform future z>5 studies, we define expected using Technicolor Dawn simulation to model absorption from z=5-7, encompassing end We find that absorber types strengths slightly better associated with their environment than traits host galaxies, as system more strongly correlated local overdensity stellar mass galaxy. For redshifts prior reionization, high ionization transitions like C IV spatially brighter on scales a few hundred proper kpc low systems, due former's preference environments higher UVB amplitudes those ions' relative rarity z>6.
